CEREC: Everything You Need to Know

cerecIf you’re a very busy person and you hate wasting valuable time in a dental clinic, your best option is to look around for CEREC services if you’re planning to undergo tooth restoration procedures.

CEREC stands for “Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics”, or simply CE-ramic REC-onstruction.

Coastal Smiles Family Dentistry uses the technology when you need ceramic restorations, such as crowns, veneers, inlay, and onlays.

How It Works

Traditionally, after we’ve made a diagnosis that you need a crown or veneer, a wax mold of your tooth is made so that the crown or veneer will fit perfectly. But that will usually take around two weeks.

That means you’re going to have to wear a temporary crown or veneer in the meantime while they fabricate the crown in a lab. Then you’ll have to come back again to have the crown fitted.

With a CEREC machine, however, the entire procedure is fast-tracked, and you only need an hour of waiting time and usually you don’t need to make a second visit.

The CEREC machine is made up of a special camera and a sophisticated computer program. The camera takes a 3D image of your teeth right and the program uses that image so it can make a 3D model of your teeth, which acts as the blue print for the restoration.

Coastal Smiles uses a milling machine already installed onsite to create a new tooth made from high-quality ceramic. Once that’s ready, it is stained and colored so that it matches the rest of your teeth and no one notices that you have fake teeth. When you and our dentist are both satisfied with the result, the restoration is then cemented in place. You’ll be able to smile and chew your food with ease and confidence.

Benefits of CEREC Technology

The advantages of CEREC are obvious. For one, you won’t have to take additional time from your busy schedule to make a second visit. You’re also spared from having to wear a temporary crown or veneer, which may be uncomfortable and also more obviously fake.

Finally, the end result is much better, because the 3D image tends to be more accurate than what the dentist would get from a mold.

In other words, you can go to Coastal Smiles, get checked and assessed by us, we’ll then fabricates the veneer or crown using a fantastic piece of technology, and then you’re all set in just an hour or two.

Surprisingly, opting for CEREC technology will cost you almost the same as the conventional method. That’s because you won’t have to pay a fee for dental lab services and you only have to pay for a single visit, instead of two.

Now if you factor in not having to miss work and not having to wear a temporary veneer or crown, you’ll realize that CEREC technology is not just more convenient, but actually more cost-effective. No wonder more people are choosing this method nowadays!
